Our Amazon exploration kicked off with excitement during our early morning skiff ride along the Yanayacu River, as we were surrounded with gray and pink river dolphins. We began to familiarize ourselves with all the amazing birds that inhabit this region, including macaws, hawks, terns, and kingfishers. But the mammals stole the morning with a visiting troop of squirrel monkeys and a ‘fast’ brown-throated three-toed sloth making its way up a tree to some choice vegetation.
In the afternoon, Delfin II repositioned so we could explore Nauta Creek, a much smaller tributary than Yanayacu River. Some folks decided to kayak, so they could take in the sights and sounds of the rainforest moving at a slower pace.
After a cool morning, the sun emerged in the late afternoon, casting glorious evening light on the colorful macaws flying by.
