On our third day of the expedition, National Geographic Endeavour II crossed the Galapagos Archipelago to the western realm. We woke up early for whale watching and spotted blue whales near Fernandina Island.
We visited the youngest islands of the archipelago, which are only 500 to 700 thousand years old. Situated at the breach of the upwelling zone of the Cromwell Current, these islands are among the most productive areas in the Galapagos. We started with an amazing walk, where we encountered the largest population of marine iguanas in the archipelago. To conclude the morning activities, we explored the marine life of Fernandina Island.
In the afternoon, we sailed to Punta Vicente Roca and had a spectacular Zodiac ride along the coastline of Isabela Island.
