Our journey on Tanna began with excitement as the marine team expertly brought us ashore from National Geographic Orion. We were warmly greeted by the locals in a nearby village, offering a glimpse into Tanna’s laid-back and welcoming culture. From there, we loaded into 4WD vehicles and began an adventurous drive across the island to reach Mount Yasur.
The volcano stood in all its majestic glory, rumbling beneath us as we climbed to its crater’s edge. Before the ascent, we were treated to a vibrant cultural performance where locals honored their sacred volcano with traditional music and dance. After returning to the ship for lunch, National Geographic Orion repositioned to a new site for an afternoon adventure.
We swam into the Blue Cave, an incredible underwater marvel. Inside, light streamed through an opening, casting a beam that illuminated the cave’s towering walls with breathtaking beauty. It was the perfect way to conclude an unforgettable day on Tanna.
