We started the second day of our voyage in Security Bay on the northern end of Kuiu Island. After breakfast we explored the protected waters by kayaks, while a brave collection of guests went for a bushwack through a hemlock forest coated with huckleberry bushes heavy with ripe berries.
We moved northwest to the shadow of Baranof Island and Hidden Falls Hatchery amid the pink salmon run. Much to our delight, no fewer than 15 bears had stationed themselves near the hatchery to feed on the returning salmon. Tonight, we cruised north in Chatham Strait for one of the jewels of Southeast Alaska, Glacier Bay National Park.
