Another sunny day for our final landing on Baranof Island! With an extensive logging history, Rodman Bay is notable for how well the riparian zone and salmon habitat have recovered in recent decades. Hikers meandered along an old logging road, taking in the varied forest patches and reflecting on the trip while gazing up through the canopy from a bed of moss. Intertidal walkers found a stream with many salmon, as well as evidence of predators visiting the water’s edge seeking Southeast Alaska’s finest wild food.
Many of us also enjoyed Rodman Bay from the sea, kayaking with large lion’s mane jellies, over rich mussel and seaweed beds, and in the company of flocks of gulls.
This afternoon, we sailed through the swirling tidal currents of Sergius Narrows to arrive in Sitka. Our final slideshow showcased photos from everyone onboard, recalling all the wonderful moments we shared this week.
