Isabela and Fernandina Islands
It is not easy to summarize any given day in this paradisiacal archipelago. I will try to do it briefly through a series of questions. 1. Can you imagine being seated having lunch while watching dolphins? The dolphins were a blast. A huge pod of common dolphins leaping acrobatically with joy up into the air were a true amusement. 2. Can you dream of swimming and snorkeling with endangered sea turtles with a volcano in the background? We truly did it; you have to live it to believe it anyway. 3. Can you believe in a cactus species that grows directly on lava? The lava cactus is so special that is classified botanically in a genus that is endemic to the Galápagos. 4. Have you heard about a giant fish that can weigh up a record 5,072 pounds? We saw it! The fantastic Mola mola was spotted during a Zodiac cruise in the morning. 5. Can you picture in your mind penguins living in the Equator with crabs and marine iguanas sharing the same lava rocks with them? Hard to believe isn’t it? We saw it as well. The Galápagos penguins were among the favorite bird species seen today. 6. Have you heard about a cormorant species that cannot fly? The flightless cormorant a living evidence of adaptation and evolution were observed nesting and swimming. 7. Can you imagine an iguana in the ocean? Spectacular groups of marine iguanas were seen all over. This emblematic reptile is the only sea-going lizard in the whole world.
br>All of the above and many more delightful sightings were part of our lives during this truly exciting day. A day that not only fill our expectations but gave us strength in the constant efforts directed to the conservation of this ultimate natural paradise, our beloved Galápagos Islands.
