Glacier Bay Post-Voyage Extension

Explore Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve

Extend your Alaska experience with a three-day extension in Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve—a 3.3-million-acre treasure of natural wonders and wildlife near Juneau, Alaska and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience magnificent glaciers, towering snow-capped mountains, abundant birds and wildlife, and mile after mile of pristine coastline. Glacier Bay Lodge, nestled under the spruce trees that line Bartlett Cove, offers the only hotel accommodations within the park.

Spend the day on the waters of Glacier Bay in a high-speed catamaran and visit the faces of Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers rising 245 feet above the sea. See ancient snow-capped mountains, rare birds such as puffins, coastal bears, and so much more. Back at the lodge learn about the area’s natural history from fascinating displays, and visit the Huna Tribal House, located along the shoreline trail near the lodge.

Highlights

  • Spend two nights at the only lodge located within Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve.
  • Full-day catamaran excursion into Glacier Bay with lunch included.
  • Spend the morning on a guided kayaking tour of Bartlett Cove.
Day 1 - Arrive Gustavus

From Gustavus, transfer to Glacier Bay Lodge, nestled among the majestic Sitka spruce trees of Bartlett Cove. Head into the surrounding rainforest on an easy or moderate hiking trail, looping through the woods and to the shore. Sit down to freshly caught seafood—where the local haul might include Dungeness crab, halibut, or salmon—at the lodge’s dining room or on the scenic deck. (D)

Day 2 - Glacier Bay Experience

After breakfast, embark on a daylong excursion by catamaran accompanied by a park ranger. Navigate the waters of Glacier Bay and take in the dramatic sights of tidewater glaciers and seek out calving glaciers. Watch for puffins, Stellar sea lions, black and grizzly bears, moose, mountain goats, and sea birds. Enjoy lunch onboard, then return to Bartlett Cove to spend the rest of the day as you wish. Embark on a hike or tour the visitor’s center. Or visit the Huna Tribal House—with its carved eagle and raven totem poles—and learn about the history of the Huna Tlingit people, who call Glacier Bay their ancestral homeland. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Bartlett Cove/Home

After breakfast, meet a kayaking guide for a quiet paddle around Bartlett Cove. Keep an eye and ear out for signs of wildlife—whether the blow of a humpback whale or the splash of a curious harbor seal—and soak up views of Glacier Bay. Then transfer to the airport in Gustavus for your return flight home. (B)
