Today’s destination aboard National Geographic Sea Lion was Tracy Arm, which is a spectacular glacially-carved fjord in Southeast Alaska. As we cruised up this scenic inlet, we admired the towering granitic walls, hanging valleys, domes, and abundant waterfalls.
Immediately after breakfast, we boarded Zodiacs for a trip to get closer to the face of South Sawyer Glacier, noticing an abundance of curious harbor seals in the water. We were rewarded with large calving events from the face of the 250-foot-high glacier. The deep blue color of some of the icebergs in the water was amazing.
Later in the afternoon, we exited the fjord and observed some humpback whales. After dinner, in the darkening twilight and as the rain continued, many of us thought of how typical the weather was on the last full day of our Alaskan voyage.
