Today aboard National Geographic Orion, we visited the stunning Society Islands. This group is made up of two mountainous islands, Taha'a and Ra’iatea, which are sheltered by a single barrier reef. In the morning we visited a vanilla plantation, learning about the cultivation and processing of this exquisite spice. Then we cooled off with a snorkel, exploring the vibrant underwater world teeming with life.
In the afternoon our exploration led us to the Marae Taputapuātea, a sacred cultural meeting place, where we immersed ourselves in the rich local traditions and history of the region. We were captivated by the stories shared, gaining a deeper appreciation for the island's heritage.
To end the day on a high note, we hiked up to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the lagoon and Marae complex. The panoramic vista was awe-inspiring, offering a glimpse into the natural beauty and cultural significance of this stunning island paradise.
