After smooth sailing during the night, Sea Cloud arrived this morning to Siracusa, located in the southeast corner of the island of Sicily and home of the ancient Greek mathematician and engineer Archimedes.

After breakfast we walked to the buses waiting to take us on a short drive to the Parco Archaeologico della Neapolis with many ancient buildings from the Greek and Roman period. Another stop was the famous “Dionysius' Ear,” a limestone cave carved out of the Temenites hill. Its name comes from its similarity in shape to the human ear, and the acoustic effects inside the cave.

Following a wonderful lunch, we went on a walking tour around the small island of Ortygia, the historical center of the city of Siracusa, notable for its rich Greek and Roman history.
