National Geographic Quest cautiously sailed through the thick morning fog in Wrangell Narrows; her foghorn blowing in a most romantic way. The fog lifted slowly, forming a fog bow, where we could see the shoreline and the top of the nearby mountainside of Kupreanof Island with fog between the two. Ava leads guests in a standing stretch class, readying us for the day’s activities. I lead a group of fabulous bikers on a five-mile loop, stopping at a city park and the Sons of Norway Hall. After a nice lunch of either salmon stew or chili, I lead a tour by Zodiac along the dock, sorting out the different types of fishing vessels. Our day ends with cocktail hour, educational and entertaining recaps, and a fabulous crab feast.

Rodman Bay, Alaska
Hiking into an Alaskan rainforest is a journey into a world lush with greenery. We spent the morning underway in search of wildlife. After some of the mandatory briefings, our diligence paid off and we managed to find a large coastal brown bear. Binoculars and cameras in hand, we shared space with this charming creature for a time, soaking in such a fortunate experience. In the afternoon, we hiked through the old logging roads of Rodman Bay. Ferns unfurled alongside sparse old growth trees, lining the trail and captivating our attention. Getting our boots on the ground was a refreshing end to the day before coming back aboard for our first recap.
