The morning sun found the guests of National Geographic Quest on the bow, watching the ship dock in the “Town that Fish Built.” Historic Petersburg offers a welcome break from wilderness exploration, an opportunity to enjoy a little shopping and explore a real Alaskan small town. This portion of our trip is a choose-your-own adventure: bicycle tours, muskeg hikes, cultural experiences, climbing Petersburg Mountain, or maybe just wandering around town. Our guests made the most of it.
At the evening recap, expedition leader Shawn Lucas congratulated the sixteen adventurers who completed the seven-hour hike to the top of Mt. Petersburg. Hilarious pictures recounted the bike ride around town, while naturalists reviewed the wondrous plants that live in the muskeg. The tail end of cocktail hour was celebrated with a Lindblad tradition: the Ray Troll Fashion Show. Naturalists, stewards, and crewmembers paraded around the lounge exhibiting t-shirts designed by Troll. Guests joined in to show off their recent purchases for a group photo before dinner.
