Our morning started with an early breakfast just around sunrise. Today, we had the opportunity to venture further into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. After breakfast, fully equipped, we boarded the skiffs and set out to explore the reserve.
In the low-water season, different species of fish-eating birds visit the reserve. We saw flocks of neotropical cormorants perched in several kapok trees. Wood storks, jabirus, and several herons gathered to feast on the abundance of food available during this season.
Our naturalist taught us the different conservation projects in the reserve. The conservation of the yellow-spotted river turtle is one of the main projects. With the help of the nearby communities and volunteers, they collect the eggs and take them to artificial hatcheries to guarantee their growth.
We had a picnic lunch in the reserve visitor center. Once we recharged our batteries, we went to Yanayacu Lagoon and enjoyed a refreshing swim after exploring the reserve.
Back aboard, we headed to Nauta. As we cruised, our stewards shared with our guests the skills of making lovely origamis with the towels.
It was the perfect way to end our day exploring the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
