Cloudy skies and a bit of rain greeted us upon waking this morning—the crispy forest mosses are breathing a sigh of relief. National Geographic Quest adventurers were inspired to don their rain gear in anticipation of an exciting excursion in the Zodiacs.
It was a great morning for wildlife including a breaching whale who gifted its display to the first round of Zodiacs. The second-rounders had quite a “sporty” time navigating the waters around Bird Rock and encountered many yellow-eyed rock fish that had met untimely ends. Several of the deeper water fish were found bobbing in the roiling surface currents having been forced up from the depths by the strong inland tidal surge.
The rest of the day was spent transiting south while staying active onboard. Catching up on photo downloads and editing, naturalist presentations on salmon and John Muir, Global Explorer activities, and a lively recap including kelp tasting and trumpet playing rounded out the day.
