Our first full day aboard Sea Cloud II with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions began under clear skies as we set sail for the first time, the sails unfurling gracefully in the morning breeze. The sensation of moving under wind power alone was unforgettable — guests gathered on deck to watch the crew work in perfect coordination, bringing this historic vessel to life. As we made our way toward the Croatian island of Hvar, the warmth and professionalism of the crew created a truly welcoming atmosphere. Once anchored just offshore, we embarked on a walking tour through the charming streets of Hvar, culminating in a high point challenge — hike — to the hilltop fortress. From the top, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the bay and Sea Cloud II anchored regally below. The day concluded with a stunning sunset and quiet evening aboard, as guests reflected on the experience and looked forward to tomorrow’s day at sea.

Sea Cloud II
Rovinj and Pula, Croatia
This morning we visited the ancient fishing town of Rovinj, which still exhibits a distinct Venetian character, architecture, and dual language signs, after centuries of rule by “La Serenissima.” We climbed up the hill to the majestic cathedral of St. Euphemia, then through Roman ruins and the maze of little lanes, typical of any small town that took form in medieval times. Next we explored the central part of the Istrian peninsula, visiting San Tommaso winery, where we savored local products offered on cutting boards and tasted autochthon wines. Sea Cloud II was waiting for us in the old Istrian capital of Pula, where we had the option to eat lunch on board or enjoy local restaurants. In the afternoon we visited an amazingly preserved Roman amphitheater which still proudly stands as the main landmark in modern days. We finished the day with a sunset dinner on the lido deck.
