We arrived at Genovesa Island in the early morning, and our first outing was a pre-breakfast snorkel in search of hammerhead sharks! These fish were still active and close to the surface in the early morning — they were slowly swimming near the cliff of the caldera — so we had the chance to see them!
After breakfast we walked into the island to see the red-footed booby colony; they nest on the trees and are found all around the island. Here we also encountered Nazca boobies, which, on the other hand, nest on the ground. Our walk allowed us close-up views of their features and beauty. In the afternoon we had a relaxing final walk on the beautiful beach of Darwin Bay, where the group encountered swallow-tailed gulls and many other unique bird species that make this island so special.
