Today, we woke up anchored in a bird’s paradise! We found ourselves surrounded by thousands of marine birds in the caldera of Genovesa Island. Genovesa is indeed one of the jewels of the crown in the archipelago.
Our adventure started at Darwin Bay, a beach surrounded by mangroves and endemic and native vegetation. We observed hundreds of birds perched and nesting, including adults, juveniles, chicks, and newborns.
In the afternoon, we visited Prince Philip’s Steps. The site had different scenery but a similar abundance of birds. Genovesa is home to over a million birds, including the largest red-footed booby colony in the Galapagos. Nazca boobies, lava herons, lava and swallowed-tailed gulls, short-eared owls, red-billed tropicbirds, and Galapagos fur seals are indeed some of the highlights of this amazing site! What a wonderful place to end our expedition.
