Tamarindo Beach & Bahia Zapotal

Calm, glassy waters brought us back to Costa Rica. Today the sunrise found us anchored at Playas del Coco where we proceeded to clear customs and immigration. This time we were heading southwest to a place known as Tamarindo Beach.

Upon arrival to our destination a group of pantropical spotted dolphins welcomed us to this area known as a surfing and deep sea fishing mecca in the province of Guanacaste.

Around 9:30, we dropped the anchor and we headed to our activities that included surfing lessons, boogie boarding and walking on the beach and in town. Those who ventured to learn the basics of surfing techniques were really having a good time since all of them were able to catch a few waves; that became a great highlight for some, others had a great time enjoying the possibility of going shopping into town and walking in a long white sand beach.

After we return to the Sea Voyager we reposition into the Bay of Zapotal a place where our only companions where a couple of dogs, a house with local fishermen and the footprints of a sea turtle who nested the night before our arrival. Our activities included our last snorkeling outing, “banana boating,” and bird watching that included sightings of black-headed trogons, squirrel cuckoos and even a family of mantled howler monkeys.

A few minutes before sunset a few were still enjoying swimming while others return to the ship to end a great active day in this pristine area of Costa Rica.
