Today after a blustery morning watching fin whales, the wind and seas calmed down and we were able to land at Isla Rasa. This small island is the primary breeding ground for nearly all of the world's populations of elegant terns and Heermann's gulls. Pictured here is an adult Heermann's gull on its nest. We were surrounded by birds for several hours and had many fantastic photo opportunities.

We remained at anchor near the island through the calm evening, and were joined for dinner by the researchers from the island who have been studying these birds for over twenty years.
