We ventured ashore at sunrise at Isla San Esteban. Hiking in the desert, we encountered giant pinto chuckwalla lizards, and many spiny-tailed iguanas. The majestic cardon cactus were in bloom, and several iguanas were sighted high on the cardons eating the unopened blossoms. These blossoms are an important source of both moisture and nutrition for these creatures living in this dry country.
