We arrived in Bah¡a Magdalena this morning after steaming partway up the outer coast of western Baja overnight. We encountered California gray whales soon after entering the bay and began our whale watching by Zodiac just after lunch. Unfortunately, our digital camera didn't make it out on any of the whale watching adventures this afternoon. Fortunately, the fun didn't stop when the sun went down and the Zodiacs were tied up.
A four-piece band from nearby San Carlos arrived by "lancha" (the name for the local fishing boat) to entertain us before and after dinner. Meanwhile, La Ballena Gris restaurant from the village of Lopez Mateos (only slightly further away in boat miles), sent their chef and helpers down by lancha along with fresh-caught shrimp and grouper, which they prepared for us in several delicious ways. Dessert topped it all off with a delicious cheesecake (that may have been our galley adding their finishing touch). We'll spend the night anchored here in the quiet bay waters and maybe hear a coyote or two howl across the sand dunes. In the morning we'll go out by Zodiac to encounter gray whales once again.
