Bartolome Island

Early in the morning our guests were prepared to climb up to the top of Bartholomew Island. The hike was very relaxed; we got to the top passing by the small parasitic volcanoes, some lava tubes, and some of the pioneer plants that are able to grow on the young and dry lava ash. Finally we arrived to the summit and enjoyed one of the most beautiful views in Galápagos from the top of the island.

After breakfast we had the opportunity to swim and snorkel in one of the nicest bays here in Galápagos: Pinnacle Rock Bay. We enjoyed swimming side by side with penguins, sharks and sea lions; every thing was going perfectly and smoothly until some of our guests decided to return on board. It was a really big surprise for all of us, that when getting closer to the ship, a young blue-footed booby encountered us and started to look for a place to land, and suddenly decided to land on one of our guest’s heads! It was amazing, and all of us became completely frozen. And what we can we say about the lady where our friendly booby decided to land? Was she was very scared at first when she felt something like bird feet moving on top of her head? Well, I told her to stay still and don’t worry, that the bird will fly away. It didn’t happen, and this bird didn’t want to abandon this comfortable perch. At that instant I decided to get the camera and capture this famous moment. I could not believe it was happening; it was so funny.

At the end of it all, our companion decided to take off and find a different place to rest.
