Floreana Island
This is the second day of our voyage, which seems to be getting better and better everyday. After a wonderful sunrise, our day commenced with an early Zodiac ride around a group of small rocky islands located at the northern side of Floreana. This is a great habitat for black sea turtles due to food availability and sandy areas where they can nest. We are also at the beginning of their mating season, therefore we saw heads here and there as they came up to breath, but we also saw many sea lions pups playing in the tidal pools.
Right after that, we disembarked at Post Office Bay. The intention for this visit was to continue with the old tradition started back in the late seventeen hundreds. We collected and dropped postcards that, without the need of a stamp, would make their destination by means of hand delivery!
Later on, our Captain Wilfrido Chavez repositioned the ship toward Champion Islet. The snorkeling was wonderful great visibility and we saw with large school of colorful fish everywhere. Some guests experienced the feeling of swimming with sharks and sea turtles. .
The afternoon was great for bird watching. We had a spectacular display of flamingoes sieving their food from the mud found at the bottom of a brackish water lagoon.
It was time to return to our home, the Polaris, but not without the enchanting colors of a beautiful sunset at the horizon.
