San Cristobal Island
This is our last day in paradise! With a little bit of sadness for the great time we had throughout our expedition in the Galápagos we concluded with a great day visiting San Cristobal Island. Today we explored the northern tip of this magnificent isle and we also explored the undersea realm as our last activity.
In the morning we explored Punta Pitt. Here we had a wet landing and a hike to explore the volcanic landscape of the island. As we climbed to the top of this old volcano the view was even better and the landscape turned out to be magnificent with green and dry vegetation as well as some areas covered with astonishingly colorful carpet weed.
One of the highlights of San Cristobal is the red-footed boobies flying along the cliffs, perching on the bushes and nesting. Some of us explored the off-shore islets from the zodiacs in search of seabirds and sea lions. These little islets are overflowing with marine life. As we explored one of the islets we found a little petrel that was having a hard time with the young sea lions that had caught it to play with. We rescued it and then Naturalist Jonathan Aguas released it successfully from the beach and it returned back to its colony!
In the afternoon we snorkeled at Leon Dormido. This offshore rock is teeming with marine life of different types. Here we found Galápagos sharks, sea turtles all around the rock, and eagle rays, to mention a few of the species of the place.
It was the perfect day with a gorgeous sunset; with a drink in our hands we celebrated a once-in-a-lifetime journey in the enchanted islands.
