Floreana Island

Early in the morning we start for a taste of tradition at the world famous Post Office Bay. Here postcards from all over the world are left inside of a barrel, awaiting a personal hand delivery by other visitors. This tradition started when whalers hunted around these waters in the 1790s and it was the only way to let their loved ones at home to know they were ok.

We returned to the Islander for our breakfast while repositioning the ship to our next site, Champion Islet. It offers a great opportunity to snorkel with many tropical and subtropical fish, not to mention the pirouettes of sea lions and those that prefer a costal ride to enjoy bird watching for endemic, resident and migratory birds, cacti, just to mention a few. Another offering for the afternoon was high impact snorkeling for those intrepid at heart at Devil’s Crown, or relaxation at the beach if desired.

Cormorant’s Point is our next expedition, which is home for the pinkest flamingos; the one in today’s photo is a very young bird, hence his light color. Mesmerized by the landscape, beaches the sounds and gentle caressing of the sea breeze as the sun sets, we embark for our next day in the enchanted islands.
