Española Island

Today marks the sixth day of our Galápagos voyage. As we are anchored off a nice white sandy beach, we decided to observe the wildlife in the surroundings. What appeared to be rocks in motion ended up being the always so playful Galápagos sea lions! This beach was filled with them. Most of the guests choose to take advantage of the snorkeling activities and then a nice stroll on this paradisiacal beach. Sea lions were literally all over the place, and guests were photographing them as if they were movie starts. By this day, sea lions have learned to pose for our guests and to be the main target for photographs!

The Islander weighed anchor later in the afternoon heading to our next destination, Punta Suarez. Here, a whole new adventure awaits us. Our landing surprised us all when we encountered a cemented jetty full of colorful marine iguanas and young sea lions. They looked just as happy to see us as much as we were to see them. As we continued strolling along the path, we met all these prehistoric-looking creatures, and most of them happen to be endemic to this isolated island in the southeastern corner of the Galápagos. All of a sudden we started to hear noises coming from the bushes. We soon realized that such noises were coming from the blue-footed boobies performing their mating dance. As we continued our walking, we saw the Nazca boobies with some of their juvenile’s babies right in the middle of the path! For a split of a second, we thought we had seen it all. Then, the majestic waved albatrosses appeared, gliding over our heads. This was our true highlight! This is the only place on earth where the waved albatross nest and perform their rather complicated dance. This is definitely a magical island, where all the animals live in peace and harmony. There is so much peace surrounding us that it becomes the perfect place to think about how small mankind is in comparison to nature. This is what I call a perfect day!
