Early in the morning, we awoke to a beautiful view of Floreana Island. This island offers a comprehensive view of the human history of the Galapagos. From whalers to pirates, early colonizers came to Floreana Island in search of fresh water and resources.
We had a wet landing early in the morning in search of the oldest mailing system in the Americas, located about fifty yards from the landing site. We stopped at the famous post office barrel, where we dropped off our post cards and picked up post cards to deliver back home, continuing with the tradition that dates back to 1793.
After the post office, we went deep water snorkeling along the coast of Champion Islet. We spotted sharks, sea turtles, and a variety of fish. After lunch, we visited Cormorant Point where we spotted American flamingos, shorebirds, blue-footed boobies, and the large nesting grounds of the Pacific green sea turtles.
Floreana was truly remarkable today!
