Today the intrepid explorers aboard National Geographic Resolution came to the end of their crossing of the Drake Passage. The ship glided gracefully through turbulent wind and seas. We were accompanied by albatrosses, petrels, and other seabirds that soared majestically alongside the ship. We spotted pods of dolphins in the waves. Guests were awestruck at the incredible power of the ocean.

Much of the day was spent listening to presentations given by members of the expedition team, including a discussion about adaptations to the extreme cold made by Antarctic wildlife, iPhone photography, and the geology of Antarctica and Patagonia. Guests were also treated to a viewing of Around Cape Horn, a documentary that chronicles the voyage of Peking around Cape Horn in 1929.

By late afternoon, National Geographic Resolution sailed into the protected waters of the Beagle Channel. Guests were once again delighted by the smell of trees, the sight of greenery in the wind, and the beauty of the Patagonia landscape.
