We awoke on our first morning at sea to much calmer waters than most prepare for when journeying to Antarctica. The weather was favorable and the seas mild. Many seabirds, such as black-browed albatross, sooty albatross, pintado petrels, and more, followed the winds astern National Geographic Resolution.

We gathered in the lounge where we met the team of natural history staff and began to learn of the many seabirds we may encounter on the trip as well as some very helpful smart phone photography tips. Enjoying the company of our shipmates and exploring our home for our exciting new journey, we settled into our day at sea crossing the Drake Passage.
