Our day began on the dry, eastern side of the Cascade mountain range where sage brush and Ponderosa pines dominate, and ended 60 miles to the west, in the Douglas fir heavy temperate rainforest near Portland, Oregon. The transition between these two regions is made possible by the westerly flow of the Columbia River and took us through the stunning landscape of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
