Our epic trip across the Mediterranean Sea began today on the lovely Spanish island of Menorca. Right after breakfast, we disembarked at the small city of Ciutadella de Menorca and took coaches to the old town. Local guides took us on a walking tour among the beautiful limestone villas and small markets.
Following a quick lunch back on the ship, we headed out again. Some of us went on a coastal hike and others took a fascinating archaeological tour of the ceremonial sites and villages of the Talayotic people. These dwellings were built early in the first millennium BCE. The day’s rich mixture of history, culture, and nature set the perfect tone for our upcoming explorations of the islands and coastlines of the Mediterranean.
