After four days of incredible exploration of both Panamanian coasts (Caribbean and Pacific), we finally arrived in the beautiful country of Colombia today. A nation full of colors, flavors, great heritage, and traditions, as well as the joy and enthusiasm of the people. We visited the villages of Capurganá and Sapzurro. We enjoyed a wonderful welcome, and the smiles of children, the colors of art, and the beauty of the rainforest came together to offer a glimpse of what this country has to offer. It was a fantastic first day in Colombia.

Sapzurro and Capurganá, Colombia
Indigo blue waters greeted National Geographic Quest this morning as we anchored off the remote northeastern coast of Colombia. Today, we visited the coastal communities of Sapzurro and Capurganá. The remote nature of these villages means they receive very little international tourism, but it’s here where the Darien Rainforest meets the Caribbean Sea. To take advantage of this beautiful dynamic, we offered three distinct adventures: birding in the jungle, hiking across the Panamanian-Colombian border, and snorkeling over the Caribbean’s coral reefs. No matter your choice, you could not go wrong. After boarding the Zodiacs and making our way back to the ship, it was time for lunch with a few special guests. High-performing students from each of the K-6 grades, along with their teachers, were invited to tour the ship and join us for lunch. Later, we joined them at their school where nearly 200 students buzzing with excitement greeted us, ready to share the traditional dances of the Colombian Caribbean coast. By the end, we were all dancing, singing, and laughing together. The day ended with a seaside fruit and cocktail tasting under a canopy of palm trees at sunset. This was a truly memorable and flavorful end to our final day in Colombia.
