FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY, March 25, 2009 – Lindblad Expeditions (www.expeditions.com), the small ship adventure travel pioneer, is proud to announce that it is partnering with Jeopardy! to celebrate the quiz show’s 25th Anniversary season. Jeopardy! is planning a variety of special activities and promotions for this special quarter-century anniversary, including a 25-day sweepstakes promotion which will send 25 lucky winners to the Galápagos Islands for an adventure-filled week with Lindblad Expeditions aboard the National Geographic Endeavour.
The Jeopardy! “Win a Galápagos Adventure with Alex Trebek” Sweepstakes will provide winners with an opportunity to explore the “Land of Darwin.” The Sweepstakes, which will run from March 30th to May 1st, is designed as an online entry promotion in which Jeopardy! viewers watch the show and enter to win a 10 day/9 night voyage to the Galápagos Islands, which are located 600 miles of the coast of Ecuador. One new winner will be chosen each weekday of the contest time period. All sweepstakes winners will travel October 16th to October 25th, 2009. Additional details and rules, including information on how to enter, can be found at jeopardy.com.
This celebratory promotion is an outgrowth of a multi-year collaborative relationship between Jeopardy! and Lindblad Expeditions. In addition to joining forces on this promotion, the two companies have also worked together to bring images from varied global locations to Jeopardy! viewers. For example, in 2005 and in 2008, Lindblad Expeditions hosted the Jeopardy! Clue Crew on board the National Geographic Endeavour resulting in the creation of numerous video “clues”, which showcased sights and sounds filmed on the ground in Western Europe and the Baltic Sea region.
Not only will the winners of the Galápagos Adventure sweepstakes have the opportunity to travel with Alex Trebek, the long-time host of Jeopardy, but the winners will also be joined by another special guest – the winner of the 2009 National Geographic Bee. Alex Trebek and National Geographic have worked together for 21 years on nation-wide geographic bees to spark student and teacher interest in geography education. Lindblad Expeditions, which supports a variety of educational initiatives and who works in partnership with National Geographic, was happy to provide an opportunity for the Geo Bee winner to travel to Galápagos to experience this unique geography firsthand.
Alex Trebek, host of Jeopardy! said, “I am very excited by the Galápagos Adventure promotion which brings together three institutions – Jeopardy!, Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic – each devoted to inspiring the public to learn more about the planet. I look forward to traveling with the 25 lucky Jeopardy! fans on this week-long adventure to discover the wildlife and beauty of this famous archipelago.”
While traveling aboard the National Geographic Endeavour, sweepstakes winners will have the opportunity for up-close exploration of the island’s famous wildlife, as all of Lindblad’s expeditions utilize nimble Zodiacs and kayaks to take guests onto the volcanic shores and pristine beaches of the archipelago. Sven Lindblad, President and Founder of Lindblad Expeditions remarked, “I’m excited that our friends at Jeopardy! are bringing these enthusiastic travelers aboard our ship to visit one of the most inspiring natural environments on the planet. I know these travelers will have a great expedition experience – learning from Lindblad’s naturalists and experiencing the magic and beauty of this unspoiled ecological haven. And, I look forward to bringing the magic of the destinations we visit to life to an extended audience through continued collaboration with Jeopardy!”
