FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY (August 15, 2005)— A new educational activity book series for kids launches this month, created by Archie Comics illustrator, Stan Goldberg, and inspired by his travels with Lindblad Expeditions to the Galapagos Islands. In Fun and Games with Little Lin, the first book in the new educational adventure series, child explorer Little Lin discovers all aspects of the Galapagos Islands from strange animals like rare giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas to penguins, sea lions and lava formations. Her adventures teach her about the wonder of the natural world and activities in the book engage kids in subtle messages about taking care of the environment and becoming a Friend of Little Lin. The activity books will be distributed to all Lindblad families traveling to the Galapagos; Children comprise 11% of Lindblad’s annual fleet-wide travelers. The upcoming Spanish version will also be distributed to children in the Galapagos who are members of the local environmental club, Friends of the Tortoise, as well as participants of Lindblad’s Kids on Board program, which takes local school kids on an expedition of the islands.

Little Lin was created from Stan’s Goldberg’s own expedition to Galapagos. While immersed in Lindblad’s week-long expedition that unveils the unique animals and adaptive characteristics across the islands, Goldberg witnessed the way in which expedition travel and hands-on exploration incite curiosity and learning.

“Everywhere you look in the Galapagos, there is an opportunity to discover something fantastic,” exclaimed Goldberg. “For kids, this place is a living adventure story, and Little Lin is an extension of the natural curiosity that exists in kids, especially when they are discovering and exploring exotic places like the Galapagos. Her travels are likely to hook kids into the very best that travel has to offer – discovery,” he added.

Stan will travel through the Inside Passage from Southeast Alaska to British Columbia in early September to create the second of the Little Lin educational adventure series. In this region, Little Lin will encounter humpback whales, bald eagles, and retreating glaciers, searching for other activities and stories to bring to young travelers.
