She also developed award-winning educational and curriculum materials about Alaska’s natural history.
<p>Quinlan went on to work as a naturalist guide for Lindblad Expeditions, allowing her to learn about and explore diverse environments around the world, from the high arctic tundra to neo-tropical rainforests, arid deserts to oceanic islands. Quinlan returned to her native Colorado in 2006. While parenting two daughters, Susan worked as a conservation leader and database developer for JAX Mercantile Company and continued doing freelance work as a writer, illustrator, and educator. Her books about nature and ecology for young readers have earned recognition from the National Science Teachers Association, the International Reading Association, and the Junior Library Guild.
