Steve Croft

Dr. Steve Croft is an astrophysicist and educator at the University of California, Berkeley, where he is Project Scientist for an observational program on the world's largest steerable telescope (the 8000-ton Green Bank Telescope) to search for signs of intelligent life beyond Earth. He is the Director of Undergraduate Research at the UC Berkeley SETI Research Center, leading an award-winning program that engages top-flight undergraduate students in cutting-edge astronomy research.

Steve has been awarded time on the Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes, and has authored over 100 articles in scientific journals, in addition to serving on review panels for NASA and the National Science Foundation. He has delivered invited lectures around the world, including at Oxford and Stanford Universities and at the Paris Observatory. He participated in Lindblad's Antarctica expedition in 2021 where he prepared guests to witness one of nature's most incredible phenomena - a total solar eclipse. He is excited to join Lindblad's expedition to the South Pacific in October 2023 and share the wonder of what makes our fragile Earth a perfect place for life, as well as how astronomical events impact our lives on Earth and give context to our place in the Universe. Steve grew up in England, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Astrophysics from University College, London, and a PhD in Astrophysics from Oxford University in 2002. After postdoctoral research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, he moved to UC Berkeley in 2007. Steve lives in Oakland, California with his wife Lori Andrus (a lawyer) and their dog Laika.
