Nicolás Padilla
Safety is central to Nicolás’s practice. He is known for clear briefings and calm, conservative decision-making in currents, and variable visibility. He is certified in Wilderness Advanced First Aid, adding an extra layer of preparedness and care for guests. His experience supporting expedition and conservation logistics—collaborating with organizations such as the Charles Darwin Foundation—has strengthened his situational awareness and teamwork on deck, on trails, and in the water.
While not in a formal photo-instructor role, Nicolás enjoys supporting photographers of all levels. He shares practical tips on reading light and offers straightforward camera-handling guidance to help guests make the most of opportunities without disrupting wildlife or the group’s rhythm. Fluent in English and Spanish, he creates a good-humored atmosphere where questions are welcomed, and curiosity sets the pace.
Through collaborations with the Charles Darwin Foundation, Nicolás has contributed to shark-monitoring expeditions alongside marine scientist Pelayo Salinas, and he assisted a National Geographic reporting and field-photography team on a feature about restoring Floreana’s tortoises—serving as field assistant to photographer Lucas Bustamante during work that included sites around Wolf Volcano on Isabela Island.
