Jim Hendrix

Jim traces his love for Lewis and Clark to boyhood experiences in the woods of North Carolina and graduate studies with one of the leading Lewis and Clark scholars. He has spent over 30 years reading and researching the topic, and retracing much of the route of "The Corps of Discovery." In the summer of 1991 he backpacked 100 miles of the Lolo Trail in Northern Idaho, the route used by the explorers in both 1805 and 1806.

Jim holds AB, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in American History, and has published and lectured widely on Lewis and Clark. In addition to his passion for the epic journey, he is also an avid fly fisherman who has fished in 20 states in the U.S., as well as in New Zealand, Canada, Ecuador, and Scotland. He also enjoys Bluegrass music and is a poor mandolin player!

He recently retired from a 34 year career of teaching, which also included 25 years as Headmaster of three different College Prep Schools. He presently works part-time as a fly fishing guide in Lake City, Colorado, in addition to activity as an educational consultant.
