Greg Winston

Greg Winston is a conservation photographer, cinematographer, and naturalist based in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. His images are frequently published in National Geographic articles, numerous nature and wildlife magazines, and conservation calendars. His photographs illustrate books by National Geographic, Falcon Press, The Mountaineers, and Peterson Guides. Greg has been commissioned by the National Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service to provide images for interpretive exhibits, including large visitor center murals, and other educational media.

Since moving to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in 1976, his work as a naturalist, wilderness outfitter and guide, along with his camera work, have given him an intimate knowledge of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and the surrounding wilderness. His desire to share this landscape propelled him to become a photo-educator, teaching workshops in the field and in local schools. Greg's film and video work includes award-winning nature documentaries for National Geographic Television, National Geographic Channels, PBS, the BBC, and NHK Japan. His reels range from endangered ecosystems to hummingbirds, and from the de-listing of Grizzly Bears to the complex lives of Mountain Lions. His passion for adventure led him to produce and film "Acceptable Risk", the definitive documentary on high mountain rescue in the United States.

Greg's love of learning and travel resulted in journeys to a world-wide variety of subjects: endangered landscapes and their wildlife, the colorful gauchos of Patagonia, migrating arctic birds, and the inspiring Buddhist monks of the Himalaya.
