Chris Cilfone
Chris Cilfone is a marine biologist, award-winning ocean filmmaker and a PhD candidate from Syracuse University with over 15 years of experience exploring and documenting the marine world. Since 2010, he has guided scientific and eco-expeditions along Alaska’s coastline. From Vancouver to Nome, he has documented and studied the wildly diverse marine ecosystems, the many glaciers and the impacts of climate change firsthand. He is also a seasoned polar expedition guide, PADI Divemaster and US Coast Guard-licensed 100-ton captain, regularly leading travelers to some of the planet’s most remote and icy regions.
Chris is the founder of the Koholā Film Project, a nonprofit dedicated to documenting the undocumented ocean. Under a one-of-a-kind NOAA permit, his work with the humpbacks that migrate between Maui and Alaska has earned him the Explorer title with the National Geographic Society and a recurring consulting role with the BBC. His short films have won numerous international awards and have been viewed by millions around the globe, including by world leaders.
